Many thanks for all the effort you've put into this site. My maternal grandmother (Leonora Schweppe Duhl)'s uncle Louis Duhl (Elmira Ice Co, Empire Brick Mfg.) owned the house on 313 Columbia for many years. Also, my grandmother grew up in the houses at 405 and 407 Columbia. Her father, Wm Jacob Duhl and his half brother John Duhl (who lived around the corner on E 2nd) hired the architects Pierce & Bickford to build their butcher shop at 201 W. Clinton, (the building is now known as Cappy's). I first visited Emira a few years ago to research my family history at the courthouse. It was a pleasant surprise to find that many homes and buildings associated with my family (who first arrived in Elmira in the 1850s) still exist!

Enjoying your website. Used to own one of the houses on W. Church Street now being restored by acquaintances. Love those old Victorian homes and so glad to see them being preserved. Thank you for "tending" this site.
